When is Day of the Dead 2026?

Day of the Dead falls on the same dates every year — November 1 and November 2.

The two days have separate traditions. November 1 is Día de los Inocentes (Day of the Innocents), honoring children and infants who have passed. November 2 is Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), honoring adults. Together, they form one of the most cherished cultural and spiritual celebrations in Mexico and across Latin America.

In 2026, Day of the Dead falls on:

Día de los Inocentes — Sunday, November 1, 2026
Día de los Muertos — Monday, November 2, 2026

The countdown above is set to November 1 by default. To count down to a specific moment — building your ofrenda, visiting the cemetery, or a community celebration — just adjust the date and time in the configurator.

How to Use the Day of the Dead Countdown Timer

Customizing your countdown takes about thirty seconds.

Start by choosing a background. Pick from Marigold Altar, Papel Picado, or Halloween — each captures a different aspect of the celebration. There are also solid colors and universal backgrounds if you prefer something simpler.

Next, edit the title. The default is “Día de los Muertos” — change it to “Our Family Ofrenda”, “Abuela’s Day”, “Day of the Dead 2026”, or whatever fits your celebration.

Pick your display style: show all four units (days, hours, minutes, seconds), simplify to just days, or use weeks-and-days for longer countdowns. Then set the date and time. The default is November 1, but you can pick the exact moment that matters to you.

Your customizations save automatically in your browser, so the countdown will load right back up next time you visit.

Share Your Day of the Dead Countdown or Embed It on Your Blog

Once your countdown looks the way you want it, click “Share & Embed →” to copy a share link, get embed code, post to social media, or save the date to your calendar.

The share link can be texted, emailed, or posted on family group chats. Anyone who opens it sees your countdown ticking down in real time. The embed code is an iframe snippet you can paste into any blog, classroom page, community center website, or church event page. You can also share directly to Facebook, X / Twitter, WhatsApp, or Pinterest, and add Día de los Muertos to your calendar with one click for Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or Outlook.

The countdown URL contains all your settings, so you don’t need an account or login — your countdown lives in the link itself.

Ideas for Counting Down to Day of the Dead

A countdown is more meaningful when there’s something to do during the wait. A few favorites that pair nicely with the timer:

An ofrenda preparation timeline — building a family altar takes thought and time. Use the countdown to plan: gather photos two weeks out, source marigolds (cempasúchil) and candles one week out, arrange the altar the day before.

A pan de muerto baking schedule — traditional bread of the dead is best baked fresh. Schedule your baking days against the countdown so the bread is ready for November 1.

A daily storytelling tradition — each day until November 1, share a memory or story about a loved one who has passed. By the time the altar is complete, your family has revisited a beautiful collection of memories.

A papel picado craft project for kids — each day, cut and decorate one new banner. By Day of the Dead, you’ll have a colorful display ready to hang.

A cemetery visit plan — if you plan to visit a loved one’s grave, use the countdown to plan ahead: order flowers, prepare cleaning supplies, schedule the visit time, coordinate with family.

Use the Countdown for Any Día de los Muertos Event

The same countdown works for any Day of the Dead moment you’re looking forward to: a community festival or parade, a school celebration, a Día de los Muertos art exhibit, a family gathering at the altar, a midnight vigil, or any moment of remembrance for someone you love. Just change the title and date above and the countdown updates instantly.
