356 Things To Be Grateful For

356 Things to be grateful for to help you reap the benefits of gratitude if you are not sure where to start.

things to be grateful forPin

Gratitude isn’t just something we should do only when we remember to say thank you. Being more mindful and aware of the good things in your life can surprise you and help you make positive progress. Something doesn’t have to be world-changing or life-altering to be worthy of gratitude. A kind word and a smile when you need them, that first cup of coffee or tea, and the smell of baking bread or freshly mown grass are all worth taking a moment to appreciate. If something makes you feel good, happy, satisfied, accomplished, loved, or positive, then it is worth taking a second to enjoy it in a more thoughtful way. A gratefulness mindset takes time to get good at, but even a little practice, like setting aside a few minutes a day to recall what you’re glad about and happy for, can profoundly improve your overall well-being. There are many more benefits of gratitude.

You can also be grateful for things that were less positive. If you barely missed unbecoming entangled in a catastrophe like a car wreck, it’s worth the time to appreciate your good fortune. Sometimes something bad happens and you come out a stronger person for it. Although you should strive not to be grateful for rude or selfish things, it’s okay to be glad for what you have, who you are, and how your life is going.

You can also include gratitude in your journaling (see gratitude journal prompts).

Final Thoughts

It’s too easy to take everything for granted and get so busy we forget to stop and smell the proverbial roses. Allowing yourself to fully experience and appreciate things can help elevate your state of mind and bring more happiness to your life. Practicing active gratitude helps us to become more aware of the positive things in our lives. By taking time out to consider all the things, great and small, that offer us comfort, assistance, and delight allows us to spend time thinking about the goodness we experience and how much we enjoy and appreciate having it.

One of the best ways to think about things to be grateful for is to spend a few minutes whenever you do another habit you are used to. This is called habit stacking. For example, start a new habit (reciting things I’m grateful for) whenever you do another habit that you do regularly without even thinking about (waking up in the morning, brushing your teeth, driving to work, eating lunch, coming home, going to sleep). For example, each time you brush your teeth in the morning, say to yourself “what am I thankful for” and list two to five things.

If you have any other things to be thankful for that you would like to add to this gratitude list, then please leave a comment below.

About the Author
Photo of NicoleNicole has practiced gratitude for over 30 years. She started her first gratitude list in high school over 30 years ago. Since it made her feel so good, she started adding entries about gratitude to her journals. Three years ago, after reading about the benefits of gratitude, she started keeping a daily gratitude journal (you can download that same journal for free on this site) and tries to never miss a day.
Gratitude makes her happier and more positive. We hope it does the same for you.
