You've Been BooedPin

You’ve been boo’ed is a fun Halloween Pay it Forward tradition where you secretly deliver treats to your neighbors and ask them to carry on the chain. It is sometimes called “ghosting”. You leave some treats and instructions on how to carry on the fun on two of your neighbors’ doorstep when nobody is looking. You then put a sign on your door letting neighbors know that you’ve been booe’d so that you are not boo’ed twice. That way everyone will get a chance to participate. If you don’t want to boo your neighbor, you can boo your family, friends, or colleagues at work instead.

You should try to give your Halloween treats and signs to your neighbors within two to three days if you can. That way it will spread across the neighborhood in time before Halloween.

You’ve Been Booed Instructions

  1. If you have received a boo box then enjoy the treats! If you haven’t received one and you want to start the fun, then start from step number 3.
  2. Now it’s your turn to keep it going. Within two days, make two copies of this page or download a new template from the selection above.
  3. Secretly leave two Halloween treats for two people with a copy of this page in each one without them seeing you.
  4. Hang the “We’ve been boo’ed” sign on your door so others know you have already been boo’ed.

When should you start this fun Halloween tradition?

Start around the 1st of October if you want the tradition to spread throughout your community. If you are doing it among friends and family only then you can start later and closer to October 31st.

What do you put in the You’ve Been Booed Bag?

Firstly, what do you put the treats in? You can use a cheap small bucket or basket to make a You’ve Been Booed basket sometimes referred to as a Boo Basket. You can also just use a bag or box to make a Boo Box.

Put some treats like Halloween-themed candy and maybe some inexpensive Halloween toys. Put one “you’ve been booed sign” and one “I’ve/We’ve been booed sign” in each treat box or bag. You can either give them one printable You’ve Been Booed page with both signs on the page or you can cut out each sign for them. Since the You’ve Been Booed printable looks nice when you cut it out and put them in the Boo Bag it is better to cut them out but you don’t need to if you don’t have the patience.

How many copies of the You’ve Been Booed Sign should you print?

Print two copies of the “you’ve been booed sign” and two copies of the “I’ve been booed sign”. There is one copy of each on each page so you will need to print two copies. Put one in each boo box. You do not need to print the same design that you received. You are free to print any design you want.

Which format should you select?

Each design comes in three formats: a You’ve Been Booed printable PDF file, a Word file, or an image file. You can use any format. They are all free.

How do you deliver the treat bags secretly?

Put the treat bags or baskets on your neighbor’s door when nobody is around. If they should be leaving their home soon after, then you can leave it there. If not, then you might want to ring the doorbell and disappear quickly.

What do you do once you’ve been booed?

In your boo box, you should have received an I’ve been booed sign. Tape it to your door or window to let your neighbors know that you have already been booed. It also shows people how fast the tradition is being passed on and encourages others to pass it on.
